Ping Pong Robot, prizes, fundraising and more at Swedish Beers tomorrow night!

Not long to go now until the next Swedish Beers bash in London. We'll be back at the Nordic Bar, our favourite London haunt, and as well as the usual chat, drinks and mingling, we will also have a Ping Pong Robot competition to raise funds for Bloodwise.

We're busy sorting out the prizes for that, but I can confirm that two of them are these latest release books.

The first is a copy of The Startup Way by Eric Ries of Lean Startup fame. I heard him speak at an event last week and wrote a few thoughts about that over on my personal blog. I managed to come away with an extra copy of the book which will be one of the prizes tomorrow night.

The other book that's up for grabs tomorrow is Rough Diamond: Turning Disruption into Advantage in Business and Life by Nicole Yershon.

We will also have some collection buckets, so please bring your small change - every coin counts.

If you prefer, you can donate on the justgiving page here  https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/4carlo

Or you can text in with your donation (UK only). Text BEAT01 £x to 70070 to donate to Bloodwise. The amount can be edited so that you choose how much you wish to donate, so if you're donating £5, then text BEAT01 £5 to 70070 or if you'd like to donate £2, then text BEAT01 £2 to 70070 - you get the idea!

The guest list for tomorrow night is shaping up nicely. If you haven't already registered, please do that here. Entry is free and we'll have free drinks courtesy of Kindred Capital and Inspiring Interns for as long as the bar tab lasts. Everyone working in, around or interested in the mobile industry from a professional or academic point of view are most welcome. Do spread the word with your friends and colleagues.

Until tomorrow night then!

Swedish Beers (Not Tears) in Memory of Carlo Longino

swedish beers logo
It's been a long time coming in London, but Swedish Beers is back. We're back at our favourite London Joint, The Nordic Bar, where Swedish Beers began some 16 years ago. Doors will open at 18.30 and we'll keep going until the bar closes.

If you haven't been before, expect a friendly crowd, lots of chat about mobile, life, the universe and why Swedish Beers is called Swedish Beers. There will also be a ping pong contest with a robot, no less, and, of course, refreshments (soft drinks, wine and beer) courtesy of our lovely sponsors.

There will be people from all walks of mobile life there on the night - be that app developers, advertising, media, mobile marketing, handset manufacturers, payment providers, big data, brands, agencies, analysts, journalists, start-ups, veterans, noobs and much more.

This edition of Swedish Beers is a little bit special as the mobile industry recently lost one of its original evangelists and a dear friend of mine and many of you, Carlo Longino to lymphoma.

Despite Carlo living in the US, he was a great fan of Swedish Beers and came to the London and Barcelona editions many times over the years. In fact, he was at the very first Swedish Beers in Barcelona - it's where we met in person for the first time having got to know each other via our blogs (he wrote The Feature for Nokia and Mobhappy with Russell Buckley) and email.

Sadly, Carlo died in October at the age of 39. In his last few weeks, he was kept alive by blood platelets that had been donated. He was passionate about encouraging people to donate blood and especially blood platelets. To that end, we will also be raising money for Bloodwise and more important than the money, encouraging you all to go and give blood and blood platelets

I have set up a JustGiving page in his honour here. Please donate if you can - every little helps. And feel free to share a memory too!

For those of us who knew him, let's also take the opportunity to remember Carlo, whether that's the work he did in the mobile industry whilst at WIP to help start-ups globally, or it's his love of beer, cats, bbq, and British Indie music of the 80s and 90s or its his wry humour and generous spirt and the good times spent with him. And if you didn't know him, come along anyway to chew the mobile fat and continue the Swedish Beers legacy in his name.

Drinks are courtesy of Inspiring Interns and Kindred Capital. More sponsors tbc. If you'd like to be one of them, please get in touch. There is food available to buy on the night if you haven't had time to grab a bite to eat before you come.

Date: Tuesday 21 November 2017
Time: 6.30pm until closing

Place: The Nordic Bar, Newman Street, London W1 (nearest tube Tottenham Court Road, Oxford Circus or Goodge Street)

Please RSVP below or by going to the eventbrite site here

Please do spread the word among your mobile colleagues and friends. I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Skål!

Helen

Welcoming our sponsors for Swedish Beers Barcelona Edition #12

I have some sponsors to announce! Hurrah! There will be beer tokens for everyone! So without further ado, let me introduce you...

Digitas LBi White Unicorn on red background logo
Our lead sponsor is DigitasLBi: DigitasLBi is a modern, data-inspired agency - the only agency designed to offer clients a complete stack of services, from integrated communications, to commerce to CRM and innovation services across the world, all driven by our data about what really counts for your business.

The mobile team is headed for Barcelona once again and this time they're sposoring Swedish Beers! Some of you will have already met Ilicco, Rafe and Sergio at previous Swedish Beers events or have tuned into our Choons 'n Chat podcasts with Tech Talks Central. We'll be doing some more podcasts this year, so watch this space as they say.

This year, DigitasLBi is bringing more of the team along to MWC and they will be on hand to chew the fat on all things mobile - be that mobile marketing, advertising and media or innovations in hardware and software that can make a difference to their clients' businesses. So if you want to find out what can be achieved when hard data meets imagination, then search out Ilicco, Sergio, Rafe, Lorenzo and the rest of the crew when you come to Swedish Beers! Oh, and being lead sponsor, they'll also have the largest batch of beer tokens.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

We also have a range of lovely supporting sponsors. Please join me in welcoming them to the party.

Headforwards Logo
Meet Headforwards who are based in Cornwall, UK and specialise in software development outsourcing. Our primary aim is to work with our clients to create and deliver custom software that brings them business value. We believe in working in an Agile way and have adopted both the agile philosophy and agile methodologies into our business strategy and day to day life.
Our business model is different to most other outsource software companies. We create dedicated teams for specific projects and never switch members to other projects, nor do we have team members ‘waiting on the bench’ which ultimately drives costs up.
Meet Toby and his team and they can explain more about what they do, what agile means all whilst extolling the virtues of living and working on the stunning Cornish coastline and generally have a good time.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Inspiring Interns logo 2017
Many of you will already know Ben Rosen and his team from Inspiring Interns and Inspiring Search. They've been regulars at Swedish Beers since the very first parties in London in 2001 and have supported us ever since then. You may remember their polaroids from last year's bash. And I wonder if you still have their sunglasses?! Or perhaps you've joined in one of their Ping Pong competitions at our London parties? I digress.
The team is brilliant at graduate recruitment (they've placed over 5000 young people since 2009) and also do senior level recruitment in the mobile and digital sectors. Ben and his team are not like other recruiters (they're much less pushy and much more human) and I can guarantee you'll have great fun with them. I'm sure they'll also have a few surprises up their sleeves to help us all have a good time on the night.

51 Degrees Device Detection logoNext up is 51 Degrees. James Rosewell and his team will be in Barcelona and joining us as a sponsor for the first time. So let's make sure we give them a very warm welcome.

Our performance speeds are awesome too. We go direct, avoiding clouds for real time device detection. Capable of more than 5 million detections a second we're the fastest available.
So if you want to talk about responsive design principles, mobile website deployment, new handsets and device detection, these are the people to talk to.

The Swedish Beers crew will be on hand to welcome you as well as Alex and the friendliest bar staff in town at Dos Trece.

Please RSVP on eventbrite to give us an idea on who's coming and we'll do our best to accommodate as many of you as possible but it does mean there's no guaranteed entry. Just come and go as you please.

It is likely to get a bit busy at times. But don't worry, people will be coming in and out all evening. If it's very busy, there's no need to queue to get in, we'll have a second bar nearby for you to hang out in which will be just as good and where there will be plenty of people for you to network with.
